DRDP (2025) Is Coming: What You Need to Know
Now supported in Learning Genie
The Desired Results Developmental Profile (DRDP) is a foundational assessment tool used across California to support the development of infants, toddlers, preschoolers, and school-age children. A new version, DRDP (2025), will soon replace DRDP (2015) and bring several enhancements and updates. Whether you're preparing your agency or classroom for this transition, or just getting familiar with the changes, here's everything you need to know.
Learning Genie is proud to announce that it will support the new DRDP (2025) framework to help educators continue their documentation and assessment process with ease and compliance.
Update (September 2025): ✅ DRDP (2025) reports are now available in Learning Genie: can now be accessed directly in Data Hub → DRDP Reports.
Available Reports (Fall/Winter)
-
The Class Planning Report PTK allows users to select a rating period and a classroom to generate a raw score report by measure for all the children in the classroom. The report will not include scaled scores for these children until the reports are rerun in Spring 2026.
-
The Parent Progress Report for 2025 will be a raw score report showing children's ratings for each measure. This report may be used for parent conferences. In Spring 2026, reports will be rerun to include graphics and descriptors to show the child’s rating and additional descriptive information about their progress over the year.
-
The Group Detail Report for 2025 will show all raw scores by percentage and count for the selected group within the current year (to date). The group may be for all children or filtered using specific criteria. Domain-scaled scores will not show until reports are rerun in Spring 2026.
Transition Flexibility: Use by Site or Classroom
Agencies can adopt DRDP (2025) at the agency, site, or classroom level, allowing for flexibility in implementation. This means some classrooms may continue with DRDP (2015) while others begin using DRDP (2025), depending on readiness and preferences.

Portfolio, Ratings & Reports
Reports will roll out in phases:
-
Fall 2025 & Winter 2025-26: Only raw rating reports will be available
-
Spring 2026: Scaled scores become available after the field study concludes
-
At that time, WestEd will re-run prior reports so fall, winter, and spring reports will all include scaled scores for program evaluation.
Available Reports (Fall/Winter)

Updates to Scaled Scores & Data Tools
A data dictionary for DRDP (2025) will be released in Summer 2025, followed by a crosswalk between DRDP (2015) and DRDP (2025) in Summer 2026. These resources will help with longitudinal tracking and data consistency during the transition.

Early Adoption and Requirements
Programs serving infants through third grade may opt-in to early adoption of DRDP (2025) starting Fall 2025. However, children with an Individualized Family Service Plan (IFSP) or Individualized Education Program (IEP) must still use DRDP (2015) during the 2025–26 school year due to federal reporting requirements.
From 2026–27 onward, DRDP (2025) becomes mandatory for:
-
All CDE/CDSS early care and education programs
-
Special education service providers from Local Education Agencies for all children 0–5
DRDP (2025) Views
There are three views to accommodate a child’s developmental level:
-
DRDP IT (2025): Infant/Toddler (Early Infancy to 35 months)
-
DRDP PTK (2025): Preschool–Transitional Kindergarten (36 months through Kindergarten)
-
DRDP PTK-3 (2025): Preschool–Grade 3 (for use in Grades 1–3)
Programs should select the IT View for children aged 2 years, 8 months or younger in preschool. Those aged 2 years, 9 months or older should use the PTK View.
DRDP for School-Age Programs
Programs that receive funding for school-age care or operate as a Family Child Care Home Education Network (FCHEN) or Family Child Care (FCC) must continue to use the DRDP School-Age Simplified Version. While this instrument is currently under review, any revisions will be announced once finalized.
Looking Ahead: 2026–2027 School Year
DRDP (2025) will become the standard required instrument in the 2026–2027 school year. This includes programs for:
-
Infants, toddlers, preschoolers, and transitional kindergarten
-
Children with IEPs and IFSPs
-
Special education services for children 0–5
